Glue in locks: how it works and how to protect your door
How does the glue technique in locks work?
Burglars use glue in locks to check whether a home is empty (so they can carry out the burglary undisturbed) or to prevent the owners from locking the door when they leave the house (thus making it easier to open).
Burglars apply a thin layer of liquid glue to the keyhole in the lock cylinder or a few strands of glue between the door frame and the door leaf. If, after a few hours or a few days, no one has removed the glue, it means the owners are not at home during that time and the burglars can proceed undisturbed.
In some cases, burglars may instead decide to use the glue whilst the owners are at home to ensure that, once they have left, they cannot insert the key into the lock and cannot secure it properly, making it easier for the burglars to open the door whilst the owners are out of the house looking for a professional to resolve the problem.
Glue in locks: which properties are most at risk?
- Detached, isolated properties.
- Second homes or holiday homes.
- Houses and flats in town during seasonal holiday periods (such as summer weekends, August or the Christmas time).
How can you protect your home?
- If you find glue on your lock or door frame, do not touch anything and call the police immediately to report the incident. The police may find useful evidence, and their presence at the scene could deter the burglars from carrying out their plan.
- To deter burglars from the outset, enhance the security of your door, for example by installing an armoured door and high-security locks, cylinders and protection (such as the Series 82 armoured door locks, CHAMPIONS high-security Europrofile cylinders and Mottura magnetic Defenders®). The higher the level of protection, the clearer it will be to burglars that it will take longer to open the door, and this could deter them from acting.
- For the highest level of control, install the bNOVA motorised smart lock for armoured doors, which is controlled independently of the cylinder via the bMOTTURA app. Furthermore, by connecting it to the internet via the bBRIDGE device, it can also be controlled remotely and send a notification to your smartphone when the door is opened.

The range of Champions® security cylinders includes different cylinder models, each of which is characterized by particular technical qualities, different types of allowed key duplication and the numerous new applicable functions.
Each set of keys, sealed at the origin, is accompanied by the personal ownership card to be showed while requesting key duplicates.
The cylinders are divided into Silver Series (C10 and PRO/Modular), Gold Series (C28PLUS, C39 and CP6) and Platinum Series (C55 and C3D). All models have common safety features; furthermore, each cylinder is characterized by different mechanical systems, increasing the level of security, or in combination with each other to increase the level of complexity of the cylinder itself.
All Champions® Europrofile security cylinders are certified according to the UNI EN 1303 standard at the highest achievable levels, including resistance to Bumping, Picking and Tracing manipulation techniques.Magnetic Defenders®
Magnetic Defenders® add an additional level of protection for your security door lock compared to traditional mechanical models. A special cover completely seals the keyway and can only be rotated to show the keyhole using a special magnetic key. Only once the cover is fully rotated can the key be inserted to open the door.
The magnetic Defender® is the best form of protection against acid attacks, as well as against break-in attempts such as the use of a drill, pick, percussion blows and extraction of the cylinder rotor.
