Hotel safe: how to choose the right one

Follow our tips and choose the right safe for your hotel, B&B or ship
Mottura HOKEY safe in a hotel room

A hotel safe is very different from a home or an office one.

Safes for accommodation facilities must meet certain security and installation requirements so that guests can use them easily and safely and managers can install them smoothly and open them in an emergency.

So how do you choose the right type for your specific business? Here's are some parameters to consider.

Easy installation

A hotel safe must be easy to integrate into guest rooms without any problems. For this reason, a wall model may not be the most practical choice, as it requires extensive masonry work to install it and a wall inside the room that is wide enough to accommodate it.

A free-standing safe, on the other hand, does not require any masonry work and can be easily inserted into a wardrobe or piece of furniture with very little effort.

For example, Mottura HOKEY safes have pre-drilled back and base so that they can be easily and securely anchored to walls and surfaces (if you would like to learn more about the most important security parameters of a safe, read our dedicated article).

Facilità di utilizzo per ospiti e gestori

A hotel safe must be easy for guests to use and, at the same time, guarantee managers the ability to open it without problems in an emergency, for example if the guest loses or fails to return the key, or if they forget the opening code.

For this reason, these devices are designed to have two types of access, both for electronic and mechanical safes.

For example, HOKEY electronic safes have a guest code and a master control code or a Europrofile cylinder mechanism for security unlocking, while the mechanical version can have a combinator for entering the code and a double bitted key that can be used for emergency access.

There is also a mechanical version of HOKEY safes with a Europrofile cylinder only, which allows you to create master key systems to enable managers to open all the safes in a single group with their own key (if you would like to know more about master key systems, read our Solutions page).

Special case: safes for ships

Cruise ships are a very special type of accommodation facility. In addition to having the same security and ease of use and management requirements as hotels and B&Bs, they must also take another important factor into consideration: salt corrosion.

Since they spend a lot of time on the open sea, they need safes designed to withstand continuous exposure to the salt in the air.

In special cases, HOKEY safes can also be specifically requested with a special “cataphoresis” coating, which ensures greater resistance to corrosion.
