VARIO system: change your keys without changing the cylinder

When purchasing a cylinder for your front door lock, the best choice is to buy a high-security device that guarantees the best possible protection.

However, losing your house keys is more common than you might think.

That's why we have designed a system that allows you to change your keys without having to replace the cylinder.

 

What is the VARIO system?

The VARIO system applies to CHAMPIONS® Europrofile cylinders, our range of high-security cylinders certified according to EN 1303 and designed to resist the main manipulation techniques. 

If you purchase a CHAMPIONS® cylinder with the VARIO option, it comes with 3 different types of keys, each accompanied by its own ownership card to protect against non-authorized duplication.

Each key has a different code from the others and can be recognized by a different colored insert on the plastic tag:

  • Type A keys (red insert)
  • Type B keys (yellow insert)
  • Type C keys (white insert)

If a type A key is stolen or lost, simply insert type B key into the cylinder and use it to change the cylinder's coding, rendering the first key unusable. The same mechanism applies to type C keys, which disable type B keys.

Same mechanism, two different options

The VARIO system can be used not only in the event of loss or theft of your keys, but also if you decide to renovate your home and need to provide construction workers with independent access to the house using a construction key (we talked about construction keys in this article).

VARIO is available in two different versions:

System 3/5 + 1 + 1

In this configuration, the cylinder is supplied with:

  • 3 or 5 type A keys (red insert), which will be used daily by the homeowners;
  • 1 type B key (yellow insert), to be used as an emergency key in case of loss/theft of the type A keys;
  • 1 type C key (white insert), to be used as an emergency key in case of loss/theft of the type B keys.

System 1 + 3/5 + 1

In this configuration, the cylinder is supplied with:

  • 1 type key A (red insert), which will serve as a construction site key during the work for the construction workers;
  • 3 or 5 type B keys (yellow insert), which will be the keys used by the homeowners at the end of the work;
  • 1 type C key (white insert), to be used as an emergency key in case of loss/theft of type B keys.

 

The VARIO system provides greater security in case your keys are lost or stolen and avoids having to purchase and replace the cylinder every time this happens, saving you time and money.
