When renovating an apartment or detached house, or building a new site, it is quite common to have to leave the keys to the building or individual apartments with the company carrying out the work, so that workers can access the site independently.
In these cases, for greater security, it may be useful to install a cylinder or lock on your door that requires a construction key.
Let's find out what this is and what its benefits are for those who decide to renovate their home and for construction companies.
A construction key is a temporary key that allows you to open and close the door of your home during construction work, and which is completely disabled by the owner keys once the work is complete.
In fact, when the owner key is used for the first time in the lock cylinder, it disables the previously used construction key.
Not all cylinders have a construction key, only products that are specifically designed for this use (such as our Champions® security cylinders) and specifically requested with this option at the time of purchase.
Some high-security locks (such as the Mottura Series 82 gear locks for armored doors) can also be set up for this use. In these cases, we refer to a construction cylinder, which is a special cylinder that is installed inside the lock during construction and can be turned with any tool with a rectangular end (such as a screwdriver). Once the construction work is complete, the construction cylinder is removed and the final Europrofile cylinder is installed.
Unlike the construction key for Europrofile cylinders, the construction cylinder is an option that can only be used for “empty” construction sites, where there are no assets to protect, because it is certainly a useful tool for workers to easily access the property, but it does not represent a security solution to protect the safety of the property.
Choosing Europrofile cylinders with construction keys or locks with a construction cylinder is a guarantee not only for private individuals, but also for construction companies themselves.
For private individuals, when deciding to renovate their home and purchase a new door or upgrade the security of their existing door with a new cylinder or lock, not having to share the final keys with other people is a huge advantage.
For builders, on the other hand, the greatest benefit is being able to guarantee the highest possible security for customers who have purchased a new detached house, an apartment in a new multi-residential complex, or a new commercial building.
A key or a construction cylinder therefore guarantees security for every type of requirement.
