What is a Bulgarian lock pick?
A Bulgarian lock pick (also known as a Georgian key or Bulgarian key) is a tool that allows you to create a copy of a double-bitted key’s profile without needing the physical key.
Originally designed as a tool for locksmiths, it has also become widely used by burglars.
How does the Bulgarian lock pick work?
This device consists of two different tools:
- the tension tool, which applies tension to the lock in the same way a key would when turned in the lock;
- the ‘soft key’, which replicates the key’s profile using thin metal blades.
Which locks does the Bulgarian lock pick open?
The Bulgarian lock pick opens only double-bitted locks and only models that do not feature a specific protection mechanism (such as, for example, the ANTIDECODUE technology in Mottura locks).
How can you protect your door against the Bulgarian lock pick?
- Replace your double-bitted lock with an anti-Bulgarian lock pick model (such as the Mottura Series 50, Series 52, Series 52J, Series 54 and Series 54J).
- Replace your double-bitted lock with a Europrofile cylinder or patented core model.
