For most people, summer means finally having time to take a break and relax, perhaps by going on a long-dreamed-of trip or simply spending a few days away from home with one's family.

However, the thought of leaving your home empty for a longer or shorter period of time is a worry that can make this period less serene.

For this reason, we thought we would write down, together with our security experts, the main tips to improve the protection of your home.

1. Enhance the security of your front door

The entrance door is the first barrier that protects your home from unwanted visitors.

Whether you have an armoured door or an old wooden front door, the first step to improving its security is to install a high-security cylinder, which has efficient protection mechanisms inside that resist the main methods of burglary (e.g. Mottura's Champions cylinders).

To make your cylinder even more secure, you can also install the iconic Mottura Defender® in its magnetic version, which creates a steel armouring making the cylinder even more secure even in the event of acid attacks.

Finally, if you want to take your door to an even higher level of inviolability, choose a high-security lock with a burglar-protection mechanism (the so-called ‘trap’), which locks the door should someone manage to extract the cylinder. At Mottura we recommend models such as our Series 82 for armoured doors and Series 38 for old wooden doors.

2. Check your door status with smart devices

Do you want to be able to check your door while you are away from home? Consider installing a smart device that allows you to check the status of your door wherever you are.

Mottura's bTECHNOLOGY ecosystem allows you to control all your devices via the bMOTTURA app directly from your smartphone.

Connect your lock to the bMOTO motorised knob and pair it with the bBRIDGE device for remote communication. You will receive push notifications on your smartphone every time your front door is opened.

So you can have everything under control even while you are lying on the beach under a parasol, or while you are travelling.

3. Make windows more secure

Did you know that, in domestic burglaries, burglars enter by breaking into windows or French windows in 52.8% of cases*? People often tend to focus only on the front door, but every opening in the house should be properly secured.

Make your window grilles more secure by adding specific security locks, such as Mottura's 47 SHARK Series locks with Euro-profile cylinder operation and double locking hooks.

If, on the other hand, you do not have window grilles, but rather shutters, increase their security by applying miniature bars, such as Mottura's Series 32

4. Protect your valuables with a safe

When we go on holiday, our thoughts often turn to all the things that are most important to us that we left at home. To enjoy your trip with more peace of mind, consider installing a high-security safe to keep them secure.

If you want to avoid major building work, buy a table top safe instead of a wall-mounted version, so that you can simply attach it to a piece of furniture.

Make sure you choose a high-security safe that is certified according to the main international security standards, such as Mottura's table top safes, for example, which are EN 14450 certified with S2 grade, the highest level required by law.
